Keeping the Dock running
The people you’ll meet at the front desk, in the event room, in your inbox, and behind every introduction.

How we work
Twelve things we hold each other to.
Every one of us has an outsized impact on how founders, members, partners, and investors experience Venture Dock. These are the behaviors we hire for, give feedback on, and hold ourselves accountable to.
- 01
Own the outcome, not just the task
If we take it on, we take it all the way.
We figure out what needs to happen next, ask questions, do the research, bring options, and drive it forward, without waiting to be handed every next step.
- 02
Operate with urgency
We are a startup. Speed matters.
Not everything is an emergency, but nothing should sit unnecessarily. Anything facing a founder, member, partner, or client gets particular urgency.
- 03
Communicate proactively
No one should have to chase us for an update.
We keep the right people informed, and if something is off track we say so before the deadline, not after it. Surprises are easier to handle when they arrive early.
- 04
Be responsive and respectful
A quick “Got it” beats silence.
We acknowledge emails, Slack messages, and requests. Not every answer is immediate, but a simple “I’ll get back to you,” or even a 👍, lets people know it is handled.
- 05
Protect your credibility
Say it, then do it.
Every commitment kept builds trust. When circumstances change, we communicate early and reset expectations rather than letting a date quietly slip.
- 06
Take initiative
See something? Lean in.
We don’t assume someone else will take care of it. We bring solutions, not just problems: “Here’s what I think we should do,” not “What should I do?”
- 07
Stay curious and figure things out
“I don’t know” is a fine start.
What matters is what comes next: research it, ask questions, talk to the right people, use the tools we have, and come back with what we learned and a recommendation.
- 08
Bring energy and commitment
Engaged, prepared, dependable.
Energy isn’t about being loud or working around the clock. It’s about caring about the quality of what we put into the world, and helping move things forward.
- 09
Disagree and commit
Say it in the room. Then back the decision.
We challenge ideas and raise risks, respectfully and directly. Once a decision is made, we commit to it fully. No agreeing in the room and disagreeing in the hallway.
- 10
Talk to people, not about people
Direct beats drama.
If we have an issue with someone, we go to them. We give each other feedback and work through problems without side conversations.
- 11
Make the founder experience exceptional
The experience is part of the product.
Every interaction shapes how founders, members, investors, partners, and guests experience Venture Dock. Warm introductions, a room that’s ready, needs anticipated, things made easy.
- 12
Make things better, not just done
Fix it once. Then fix why it happened.
We solve the immediate problem and ask how to prevent it next time: build the checklist, update the process, document what we learned, fix the system.
The fine print
None of this is about perfection.
Mistakes will happen. Deadlines will occasionally move. We will all need help sometimes. What matters is ownership, transparency, responsiveness, and follow-through, and that applies to everyone here, leadership included.
